Gods New Mighty People

In 2 Samuel 28:8-39 it speaks if the Mighty Men of David.

This is a short example of what just three accomplished.

2 Samuel 28:13-17

13 Then three of the thirty chief men went down at harvest time and came to David at the cave of Adullam. And the troop of Philistines encamped in the Valley of Rephaim. 14 David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem. 15 And David said with longing, “Oh, that someone would give me a drink of the water from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!” 16 So the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless he would not drink it, but poured it out to the Lord. 17 And he said, “Far be it from me, O Lord, that I should do this! Is this not the blood of the men who went in jeopardy of their lives?” Therefore he would not drink it.

These things were done by the three mighty men.

David had thirty-seven in all, and these were his elite guard that he led into battle. These men had divine inspiration in battle and accomplished seemingly impossible victories. Killing hundreds of men in a single battle. But how much more are the people of Jesus capable of?

On the day of Pentecost Christians were given the truth and power from God the Father, through the Son and By the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:1-2

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

The Apostles received power and that changed them.

Acts 2:3-4

Then there appeared to them [b]divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

This was all followed up by passing it along via the laying on of hands. Does this mean this is the only way to receive it? No but it is a way of creating connections in the church.

Acts 8:14-17

14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, 15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. 16 For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

The Word of God is filled with blessing being passed along by the laying on of hands and praying. So what happens when one is blessed and receives the Holy Spirit? The miraculous. Lets look at this example by Paul in Acts.

Paul at Ephesus Act 19: 1-10

19 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”

So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”

And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?”

So they said, “Into John’s baptism.”

Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. Now the men were about twelve in all.

And he went into the synagogue and spoke boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading concerning the things of the kingdom of God. But when some were hardened and did not believe, but spoke evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them and withdrew the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus. 10 And this continued for two years, so that all who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

Note that they had not received the Holy Spirit and we confused as to its existence at all. They had been Baptized into Johns Baptism of Repentance. This seems to be play large part in today’s church. The powerless leadership Baptizes the people and powerlessness is spread. The people are encouraged to Repent and the cycle repeats. Now I am not discounting repentance but, If the power of God is operating through you maybe the need to continually repent would diminish.

Verse six shows, “The Holy Spirit came upon them, and they, spoke with tongues and prophesied.” This did not happen until Paul layed on Hands. The Power of the Holy Spirit is received by the mighty people of God laying hands on the brethren. This creates more Mighty People of God. Then the miraculous becomes normal.

Miracles Glorify Christ Acts 19:11-12

11 Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.

But even Paul became mighty by receiving the Holy Spirit.

Ananias Baptizes Saul Acts 9:10-18

10 Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and to him the Lord said in a vision, “Ananias.”

And he said, “Here I am, Lord.”

11 So the Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying. 12 And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight.”

13 Then Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much [b]harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem. 14 And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.”

15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children[c] of Israel. 16 For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.”

17 And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord [d]Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized.

When Mighty people share the power of the Holy Spirit it is multiplied not divided. This is how we do greater things. This is the way of the people of God, we are of one Spirit. The Spirit that Jesus left with the apostles has been passed along the generations and has been working miracles all along. The world has explained them away but that does not diminish their truth. This is because powerless men and women have stepped into battle unequipped and got their asses whipped.

Miracles Glorify Christ Act 19:11-18

11 Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them. 13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, [a]“We [b]exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.” 14 Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so.

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?”

16 Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, [c]overpowered them, and prevailed against [d]them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. 17 This became known both to all Jews and Greeks dwelling in Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

Who are you? Can God sovereignly anoint anyone, anywhere anytime for the Miraculous? Of course, but the way of his mighty people is for them to pass it along creating not dependence or independence but interdependence. The people of God rely on God and each other. To become the Mighty people of God those with the anointing must come forward and pass it along. This is that time. These people will win battles not by their strength in battle but by His strength flowing through them in battle. The mighty will kneel and the enemy will fall.
