The Whole Armor of God
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the [a]wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of [b]the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
So, now we come to the belt. It is becoming more and more apparent that this order makes perfect sense for me. The fact that I have put a shield over me and boots that won’t go backward now I need a belt of truth. Belts in those days were not a fashion statement. They were a tool to hang your tools from. These belts were more like Batman’s utility belt than a modern belt to hold your pants up. Think about the last place you want your knife or sword is in your pants. So, rings were put in place to hold scabbards for your weapon, and coin purse as well as general storage space.
Knowing this belt re-presents the truth, the utility of it makes perfect sense. All of the tools attached to it are attached to the truth. Shield of Faith, Boots of the Gospel of Peace, and a Belt of Truth. This seems like a good base to equip myself from. These things provide faith, hope, and love which is the bases of all healthy relationships.
1 Corinthians 13:11-13
The Greatest Gift
11When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
13And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
As I awaken to the reality of Jesus in my life after wandering in the desert. This gives me the strength to move forward and equip myself for battle. Now I look to my breastplate knowing my time is near.
