This is a continuation of of Masks, then Armor. Please read them first for context.
Ephesians 6-16
16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which, you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
In this chapter Paul speaks about the full armor of God. While I want to do so God is showing me there is an order that I must follow. First off if you are on a battlefield, you cannot put on your armor unless you are protected, by a shield. He then showed me an example.
In the story of Abraham, he is first known as Abram. When he returned from defeating many Kings, he met Melchizedek.
Abram and Melchizedek Genesis 14:18-20
18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. 19 And he blessed him and said:
“Blessed be Abram of God Most High,
Possessor of heaven and earth;
20 And blessed be God Most High,
Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”
God was with him, and he won the battle for Lott, and after winning he gave a tenth to Melchizedek.
Then chapter 15 starts out with this.
God’s Covenant with Abram Genesis 15:1-5
15 After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, [a]your exceedingly great reward.”
2 But Abram said, “Lord God, what will You give me, seeing I [b]go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” 3 Then Abram said, “Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one[c] born in my house is my heir!”
4 And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.” 5 Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”
6 And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
Abraham stepped out in faith, and it was accounted to him as righteousness. Read 15-1 again, I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward. God provides a shield as reward for faith. This means anyone, anywhere, anytime that exhibits faith in Him gets a shield. Period. The writer expands on this faith even more with.
Faithful Abraham Hebrews 11:8-12
8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; 10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
11 By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she[d] bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude—innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.
Abraham was wrapped in the faith of God and this shield provided the environment for the miraculous. This truth transcended the first and second heavens and allowed for the third heaven reality to impose itself on Abraham and Sarah and Issac was born. In fact, Deuteronomy 10:14 refers to all three in one verse: “Behold, to the Lord your God belong Heaven (#2) and the Heaven of Heavens (#3), the earth and all that is in it (#1) This is the natural realm, the spirit realm and Gods realm. Third heaven cannot exist in this reality. God did not create the place He was already in. So, we learn that the faith of Abraham was the power that called the shield of God into being. Then it was done, “on earth as it is in Heaven.” Mathew 6:10. So, I have realized that the truth is. It’s Gods faith in my faith that activates His power.
More Faith Champions Hebrews 11:32-34
32And what more could I say to convince you? For there is not enough time to tell you of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets. 33Through faith’s power they conquered kingdoms and established true justice. Their faith fastened onto their promises and pulled them into reality! It was faith that shut the mouth of lions, 34put out the power of raging fire, and caused many to escape certain death by the sword. Although weak, their faith imparted power to make them strong! Faith sparked courage within them, and they became mighty warriors in battle, pulling armies from another realm into battle array. So, I learned, not only do I get shielded but God sends an army to assist me.
So, God my faith is scared, naked and alone. But it’s a start, please grant me your shield that I might join You as a mighty warrior in battle. Next, I will put on my boots.
